Lubin Golf Classic: A Great Success
The 15th Annual Lubin School of Business Golf Classic was held at Wheatley Hills Golf Club in East Williston, Long Island, on May 28, 2013. Despite the soggy weather, it was a wonderful day on the green with over 100 alumni and friends of the Lubin School in attendance. All proceeds benefit scholarships for Lubin undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, service to Pace and financial need. Proceeds also support special funds, programs and projects that position Lubin to compete with other leading business schools. Charles Mak, BBA '77, MBA '80, Vice Chairman Asia-Pacific, President, International Wealth Management, Morgan Stanley, and his wife Audy Mak '77, hosted a dinner in Hong Kong in June that brought together more than 20 alumni in the region. At the dinner, Charles expressed his great fortune in attending Pace as a first-generation immigrant arriving on the shores of America. He also stated that Pace provided a terrific education at an affordable cost. "Hosting an alumni reception in Hong Kong is just a very small token of my deep appreciation for what Pace University has done for me," said Charles. The University is appreciative of the Maks' generosity and their willingness to connect the school with our many successful alumni working in China.

Outstanding doctoral, master's, and baccalaureate graduating students were honored in New York City and Westchester in May at the Lubin School's annual Awards and Beta Gamma Sigma Induction Ceremonies. One hundred and seventy-seven students were inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the preeminent international honor society in business. Kevin Richards '99, Partner, Deloitte & Touche, LLP, was honored as the Beta Gamma Sigma Pace chapter honoree in Westchester and Robert Discolo '90, Managing Director and Head of Hedge Fund Solutions Group, PineBridge Investments, New York, was honored as the Beta Gamma Sigma Pace chapter honoree on the New York City campus.

COAP Hosted at Pace for the 27th Time
From June 29 - July 3, the New York Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) and Pace hosted the 27th Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) Residency Program, which introduces students from backgrounds underrepresented in the accounting profession to the discipline. The goal of the program is to increase the diversity of CPAs. This year's program featured COAP Banquet speaker, Akilah C. Thompson, President of ACT Inspires, Inc. Ms. Thompson, an exemplary role model for students who participated in the program, is an active member and past Vice President of the New York chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA).

Andrew Coggins
Recent news of repeated mechanical troubles has plagued prominent cruise companies such as Carnival Cruise Lines. Lubin's very own Andrew O. Coggins, Jr., PhD, Clinical Professor of Management and Management Science, has received significant media attention based on his expertise and insights concerning the cruise industry and these types of incidents. A retired U.S. Navy Commander, his vast experience seafaring in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, his international and diplomatic assignments in Europe, combined with his profound knowledge of all aspects of the cruise sector, make him Lubin's resident expert on the cruise industry. Dr. Coggins is a well-known speaker at numerous cruise industry conferences, and a writer whose work includes articles published in Cruise & Ferry Info, Cruise Industry News Quarterly, Cruise Business Review, and Designs 97. He currently teaches undergraduate management courses and is the freshman and sophomore adviser for Lubin's Business Honors Program.

French Students Visit
Lubin's Center for Global Business Programs is running a custom program from June through August comprised of 34 French students from EDHEC Business School. As part of their program, French students will be taking courses in forensic approaches to American accounting, advanced sales promotion, principles of personal investment, and media and advertising for international business. They will also be participating in business and cultural visits throughout New York City. Welcome EDHEC students!

Michael Szenberg Honored at Spirit of Pace Awards
On Wednesday, June 26, faculty and alumni attended Pace University's fundraising gala, the Spirit of Pace Awards Dinner, held at the Central Park Zoo in New York City to honor Andrew Mathias, President of SL Green Realty Corp. Michael Szenberg, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Economics, was awarded the Homer and Charles Pace Faculty Award for his profound impact on the lives of Pace alumni. Over 800 alumni and friends of Pace were in attendance and a record-breaking $1.1 million was raised. Proceeds from the event will provide support for the Student Scholarship Program and special projects selected by President Friedman.

Summer Common Reading

The common reading assigned to Pace incoming freshmen this summer is the acclaimed New York Times series on social class in America, Class Matters. This book is a compilation of articles written by New York Times reporters. The book explores social class in America and its implications for society as a whole. The topics are relevant today and will make way for student discussions on socioeconomic inequalities in America and highlight why the division among classes continues to become increasingly larger.

♦  New CCRP® Cycle and "Boot Camp" Programs
 
 

The Certified Compliance and Regulatory Professional (CCRP®) program will launch its fourth cycle on Thursday, September 5. This intensive 26-week session offers in-depth exposure to all aspects of governance, risk management, regulatory strategy, and relevant regulations. The program has been expanded to include modules impacting non-banks, hedge funds, and asset managers. In addition, Lubin and the Association of International Bank Auditors (AIBA) will offer "Boot Camp" programs to provide one or two-day courses on key regulatory issues. These Boot Camps will be modeled after the CCRP® program, but they will only encompass one module at a time. The Executive MBA at Lubin is a hybrid program combining online learning with weekend residencies every ten weeks. The program is designed for experienced managers and professionals; students do not have to take time off from work or attend classes on weekday evenings.
