PACE-WIRELESS FAQs

Printer-friendly version

Information Technology Services (ITS) is currently in the process of migrating to a new and improved Cisco wireless network called PACE-WIRELESS.  This migration will take some time and is being completed in segments over the next year.  During this transition period, both the existing and new wireless network systems will be working simultaneously in selected areas until the existing system is completely removed. When roaming between these two networks, users will need to reconnect to the active network in that particular location. The sections below cover the most commonly asked questions about connecting to the new PACE-OPEN/PACE-WIRELESS network.

How do I create a wireless guest account?

Pace faculty, staff and students may create guest wireless accounts for guests visiting on campus. Guest accounts come with Internet-only access. Users must connect to PACE-OPEN which will automatically configure the network and guest login settings on their device and register it on the network.

For more advanced access (e.g.: Pace temp/contractor accounts), please refer to www.pace.edu/guestaccounts for more details. Users with advanced access guest accounts must connect to PACE-WIRELESS.

To set up guest wireless access:

The Pace University Sponsor Portal displays:

  • type your MyPace Portal Username and Password in the fields
  • click Login

Note: For more advanced access (e.g.: Pace temp/contractor accounts), please refer to www.pace.edu/guestaccounts for more details. Users with advanced access guest accounts must connect to PACE-WIRELESS.

For faculty and staff, the Sponsor Portal page has two additional links: Create Random Guest Accounts and Import Guest Accounts. The two links are used to create bulk accounts.

When sponsoring guests you can create and manage their user accounts to provide temporary Internet-only access. The guest access created through this portal provides limited access to only the Internet, Pace.edu,  public servers and devices. Why does my Apple iOS 6 device drop the PACE-WIRELESS connection whenever the screen locks?

Some Apple users with iOS 6 (or earlier) may experience a connection drop from PACE-WIRELESS whenever their device goes into sleep mode and the screen locks.  This is a known issue with Apple devices (read more here).  If this happens, the user will need to go into Settings and reconnect to PACE-WIRELESS manually.

I have a Windows 8 or 8.1 device.  Why doesn’t my PACE-WIRELESS network connection work?

There is a known issue affecting Windows 8 or 8.1 devices that have a Broadcom Wireless card with a driver version 6.X installed.  The device will connect to PACE-WIRELESS, but will reject the DHCP offer from our network system.  The user will then get an invalid 169 IP address and be authenticated to the network, but the connection will not work.  The workaround is to downgrade the Broadcom Wireless driver version to 5.3.2.
