Implications of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)

On June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act as  it was unconstitutional because it excluded state-sanctioned, same-sex marriages from the Federal definition of marriage.

Pace University is committed to equality and diversity among its employees, having already offered benefits to same-sexdomestic partners for many years.

While Federal guidance is still forthcoming (see the IRS Statement on the Court’s decision), Pace University would like to take action immediately upon issuance of guidance. In order to do so, University Benefits will need a copy of your marriage certificate. If you have not done so already, please send a copy of your marriage certificate to University Benefits (benefits@pace.edu or at extension 22828) so that we can record and update your marital status.  If you have previously supplied your marriage certificate to the University Benefits office, please contact us to confirm.

Pace will continue to provide additional information as the implications of this historic decision are clarified.
