The Pace Institute for Environmental and Regional Studies

The Pace Institute for Environmental and Regional Studies (PIERS) is directed by Robert Chapman, PhD and situated in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Pace University in New York City.

PIERS encourages research in the connections between urban environments and regional concerns. It provides leadership in the study of the complex relationships between nature and culture/society, with special emphasis on New York City and the Hudson River Valley Region and it’s diverse ecological, political, economic, social, and cultural values.

PIERS is located in Manhattan, in proximity to City Hall, Wall Street, and numerous environmental organizations working on the local, national, and international level-an ideal setting for research and teaching on environmental problems and policy solutions.

PIERS engages in interdisciplinary research, dedicated to the production and dissemination of environmental knowledge, and works on solutions to pressing environmental problems through a visiting scholar program, seminars, and conferences.
