Marguerite Derricks

Marguerite Derricks, 3x Emmy Award Winning Choreographer at PPA

One of the most in demand choreographers, Marguerite Derricks, will be teaching Commercial Dance classes on select dates in March as part of the Pace Performing Arts Artist-in-Residence program. Most recently Derricks choreographed the feature film version of Fame and is currently preparing for Wonderland, Frank Wildhorn’s new musical. Her other credits include Little Miss Sunshine, Spiderman 3, Donnie Darko, Charlie’s Angels, the Austin Powers trilogy, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and a number of live award shows. She is the first and only choreographer ever to have received three consecutive Emmy Awards.

Pace Performing Arts BA Theater Arts – Acting Major to Intern at Cannes Film Festival

Theater Arts – Acting major Leonardo Magalhaes ’15 will be going to the Cannes Film Festival in May with The Creative Mind Group as part of the company’s Internship Experience.   This internship program connects interns with major players in the entertainment industry like ICM and William Morris Endeavor and offers unlimited networking opportunities.

Musical Theater Alum Is Lead in The Fantasticks

Cathryn Salamone, PPA Musical Theater alumna, has been cast as the lead role of Luisa in the off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks. After a three-day audition process, Salamone was cast as Luisa and had her first performance on November 11. She says of her experience, “Luisa has many colors and has journeyed is a joy to experience it each night.” You can catch Salamone in The Fantasticks through the end of January 2014.

Folk Indie Band Success for PPA Alumna

Danielle Bouchard’s ’12 (BFA Acting) band, Oh Honey, released their first EP, With Love, in November and they will open for the band The Early November at The Bowery Ballroom on December 18.  With Love is available on iTunes.

Pace Performing Arts Commercial Dancer Cast in an Off-Broadway Dance Theater Piece

Junior BFA Commercial Dance Major Ivana Mendez will be performing as one of eight cast members in a new Off-Broadway dance theater work entitled Press Play. Set in a video game world where a totalitarian government has complete control over civilization, the production employs modern techno/house music and interactive 3D projections that surround the audience. Directed and choreographed by Sadie Yarrington, Press Play will have a limited run from October 24th to October 26th at The American Theatre of Actors.

Pace Performing Arts Musical Theater Student Cast in Newsies on Broadway

Danny Quadrino, a senior BFA Musical Theater Student, was cast in the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of Disney’s Newsies this summer. After rehearsals in August, Danny officially began performing in the show on September 17th of this year. He plays the role of Albert every evening and also understudies for Davey and Crutchie. This is Danny’s second stint on Broadway, his first being in the revival of Bye Bye Birdie which ran from September 15th, 2009 to January 10th, 2010. Tony Award-winning Choreographer at PPA

Pace Performing Arts’ Commercial Dance program announces Tony Award-winning choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler as a guest artist for Fall 2013. Blankenbuehler won the 2008 Tony Award for his choreography of In The Heights. His other Broadway credits include the current revival of Annie and 9 To 5, among others. Blankenbuehler will teach several master classes and stage DO WAH DO from one of his new theater projects.

The Mutilated

PPA’s Cosmin Chivu Gets Shining Review in NY Times

The NY Times gave a shining review to Cosmin Chivu’s revival of the Tennessee William comedy, The Mutilated, starring fringe legends Mink Stole and Penny Arcade. Chivu directs the play. Cast and crew members include PPA faculty Graham Kindred, Angela Wendt and Lauren Gaul, and numerous PPA alumni and students. The play runs through December 1 at the New Ohio Theater.


Film Festival Favorite Concussion Opens in NYC and LA

The independent feature film Concussion opened in theaters in NYC and LA on October 4. The film, about a fortysomething mid-life crisis, was a favorite at film festivals around the country including the important Sundance Film Festival. Pace Performing Arts’s Julie Fain Lawrence plays a supporting role in the film.

Bill Williams’ Essays Published in New York Times

Pace Performing Arts adjunct acting professor Bill Williams’ essay about his son’s  tragic passing was published in the New York Times online Opinionator in late October of this year.  Another essay about his son William was published in the Times in May.

John Doyle

Tony Winner Is PPA Artist-in-Residence

Scottish director John Doyle is Pace Performing Arts Musical Theater Program’s second artist-in-residence. Doyle, whose inventive re-staging of Sweeney Todd earned him a Tony Award, will teach a variety of master classes and critique student projects, The unique artist-in-residence program within the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences is made possible through an anonymously endowed gift.

Amy Rogers Directs Dogfight

The 2013 Lucille Lortel Award-winning musical Dogfight — an unlikely love story between a clumsy waitress and a Vietnam-bound soldier that features a pop-rock score— will be given its first staging, following its Off-Broadway premiere, Oct. 2-9 at Pace University’s Schaeberle Theatre.  Pace Performing Arts Director of Musical Theater, Amy Rogers, directs.  The production was featured in the Playbill VIP Spotlight.

PPA Student Joins Cast of Orange Is the New Black

Pace Performing Arts acting alumnus Anthony Fagan ’12 was cast in season two of the hit Netflix series, Orange Is the New Black. Hailed as one of the best television shows of 2013, Fagan was cast in a featured role.

The acclaimed company has performed at the White House, the United Nations headquarters,TED conferences, and off-Broadway.

Danielle Stout Interns at Madison Square Garden Company

Senior BFA Acting major Danielle Stout was recently hired as a student associate with Rockette Operations in the Radio City Music Hall division. “It is a humbling experience to realize how many people it takes to get a production up and running. The internship has taught me never to take for granted the people who work hard to make an actor’s job easier,” Stout said.

Acting Major Lands Role on Law and Order SVU

Freshman BFA Acting Major Hayley Griffith has been cast in an upcoming episode of Law & Order SVU where she will play the role of Hannah on episode 20. Her past credits include a supporting role in the independent film “Five Years Later,” as well as a national commercial for Burlington Coat Factory. Currently, Hayley is working on Pace’s production of “The Importance of Being Earnest.”
