Public Service Announcements

The Pace University Counseling Center has developed a series of 10 different suicide prevention public service announcements (PSAs) currently airing on WPUB.  Three of these PSAs address a general college student population, and  7 others target a number of diverse groups represented by our multicultural campus:   African-American, Latino, Asian-American, GLBT, Muslim, International students, and students with physical disabilities.  Funding to develop the PSAs comes for a grant which the Pace University Counseling Center received for suicide prevention from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  The PSAs are part of a comprehensive program to help attune and equip the university on  ways in which intervention can help prevent suicide on campus, and to make the act of help-seeking for those at risk become  easier and feel more normal.  Other components elements of the suicide prevention campaign include training of faculty and staff “gatekeepers” to equip them with skills in identifying and helping students who may be at risk, and developing   and distributing attractive, informational brochures for the general student population and for multicultural groups represented on campus on the topic of suicide prevention.
